Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14th 1988) is an American performer, actor, and dancer. Her first performances on Broadway included in Musicals Wicked Legally Blonde and Hair. Her role as Essie Carmahiel in You Can't Take It With You as Essie Carmahiel won her an award for the Tony Award in Best Featured Female Actress in a Play. Annaleigh Ashford, Tony Award winner actor has worked with many acclaimed actors and directors in stage films and television. She continues this award-winning career with her upcoming projects. Ashford is scheduled to be in the role of Kumail Nanjiani, in Robert Siegel's Hulu exclusive Welcome to Chippendales. It will premiere on 22nd November. Ashford's current film includes the Searchlight Pictures horror thriller Dust, starring alongside Sarah Paulson and Ebonmoss-Bachrach. As an Hulu Original, the film will be available on Disney Digital Television's channels. Ashford returns to Broadway on March 20, 2023 where he will star alongside Josh Groban opposite Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The production takes place in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Thomas Kail, director and producer of Hamilton is the director of the show. Ashford's last part was that of Paula Jones on Ryan Murphy FX's American Crime Story Impeachment. The show is based on the national scandal which involved Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp. She was also the lead in two seasons of CBS comedy B Positive. It was produced by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. It featured Linda Lavin as well as Hector Elizondo and Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. Her performance as Essie on You Can't Take It with You earned her Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. Sunday in the Park starring George Wicked and Legally Blonde is among her other Broadway performances. Ashford divides her time between Los Angeles & New York. She was born in Denver & raised there.
