Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej currently Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to be awarded a score of 10 in the Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi, a Romanian gymnastics teacher who later became the coach for Comaneci and first became aware of Comaneci when she was just six years old. Comaneci competed for the first time at the national junior championships. She finished 13th. The following year she won the title of champion. Her first competition in the international arena was in 1972 at a pre-Olympic Junior event for countries of the communist bloc she was awarded three gold medals. In 1973 and 1974 she became an all-around junior champion. She took home four gold medals and one silver medals at her first international competition for seniors which took place in the year 1975. This was the first time she had competed as an older senior. She took home the American Cup in New York City in 1976, becoming the first woman in history to complete the backward double salto in dismounting from the uneven parallel bars. Carol Wayne.........................Carol Wayne was an American film and TV actor best recognized for portraying Art Fern's Tea-Time Movie Lady on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. When she was in her teens, she began performing in travelling shows such as Ice Capades as a skater along with her younger sibling Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne is a US citizen born September 6, 1942, in Chicago Illinois. Carol ventured into the entertainment business in her teens. As a young girl, she began performing as an ice skater with Nina Wayne in the travelling entertainment program Ice Capades. It featured dramatic ice-skating shows.
